My Way Out
What is it that I've done?
To deserve such bad destiny
Or is it bad? Is it bad to be different?
My future is blurry, but my present is bright.
Against the odds, Dauntless has become my home.
My own home, my own people, my own family.
Wait, my family. My real family.
What has happened to the people who share my blood?
Is Caleb safe? Has he become faction less?
Are my parents in danger, is Caleb turning against our blood.
Is my future in danger, does my life suddenly going to flip around.
What is my way out? What choices do I have left?
Do I run away, do I throw the towel?
What is my way out? What choices do I have left?
Is it time to face the real truth, to give up my secret.
Faction before family, or family before faction
My parents gave me their all, is it time for me to give them this back
Odds are against me, I'm in constant danger.
Is being different really an advantage, or is it going to pull me back?
What is my future.
The truth is mine to keep, but It's also my choice to use it.
Am I superior to society, is that why they're afraid of me?
I live my own life, I don't want to be controlled.
Family before faction, not faction before family.
What is my way out? What choices do I have left?
Do I run away, do I throw the towel?
What is my way out? What choices do I have left?
Is it time to face the real truth, to give up my secret.

Summary
Divergent, written by Veronica Roth, starts by describing a 16 year old woman called Beatrice Prior. Veronica describes what is known to be the last city alive on our whole planet. In order to preserve peace, people have created a faction based city. First, Abnegation (the selfless), home to Beatrice Prior and her family. Abnegation is in charge of the governance of the city, since they serve the people and not look for the personal good. Second, Erudite (the intelligent), who seem to challenge the governance of Abnegation. Next, come Candor (the honest) and Amity (the peaceful). Last but not least, is Dauntless (the brave). Dauntless are in charge of the security of the city, and it was the faction chosen by Beatrice.
The day of the aptitude test, both Beatrice and Caleb head towards the testing center. Beatrice has always dreamed of this day, the day were her test results would finally give her the answer of her biggest doubt. What faction was she supposed to join? When arriving to the testing room, Beatrice meets her test manager. Tori, a member of Dauntless, will then manage both her exam and her test result. As the test concludes, Beatrice faces even a bigger problem; her results where inconclusive. What does this mean? The test couldn't give a faction to Beatrice, making her a divergent. Divergent are those who don't fit in society, and therefore are a threat to the peace maintained by society. The consequence of being divergent? Death.
Tori decides to save Beatrice's life. Previously, Tori's brother was put to death for being divergent, and Beatrice's test manager did not want the same future for her. She encourages the protagonist to join Abnegation, as she fills her test result as the previous listed faction. The ceremony day, where 16 year olds choose their faction for the rest of their lives, both Caleb and Beatrice have a hard decision to make. As Caleb steps up, he chooses Erudite over Abnegation, being the first of 2 sons that leave their family behind. Second, Beatrice's turn arrives, and she had probably the hardest choice to make in her entire life. Since she had no test result, she had to follow her instincts, which led to her choosing the Dauntless faction.
Facing different and hard challenges, almost becoming faction less, Beatrice now known as Tris has passed the physical tests in order to become part of the Dauntless. From being in the bottom half of the table in the physical stage, she started to dominate the mental stage. Her manager - later to become his mentor - called Four started suspecting her being a divergent. Close to the ceremony, Tris admits her secret to Four, who then teaches her how to dominate the test as a Dauntless and not the divergent way. She learns how to interact in society, how to become a Dauntless. The day of the test she overcame her fears and finally became admitted to the faction.
Everything seemed to lead in the right direction, until Erudite decided to control Dauntless minds. The rumors suddenly became truth, since Erudite faction created a drug to manipulate factions into thinking what they want them to think. Divergent people did not fall for this drug, that's when Tris learned that Four was a divergent as well. Together they overcame and overran Dauntless, and kept society as safe as they could when defeating Erudite's leader, Jeanine. As their secrets where revealed, both Four and Tris where not safe in society. They both seeked a place where they would be safe together, leaving the city.

(Post Revolution)
Good morning and welcome to you all.
My name is Tris, previously known as Beatrice Prior.
I'm Natalie Prior's daughter and it's my privilege to lead this service.
We are all here in name of the wonderful women Natalie was.
In name of both our city and our people, I stand up here valuing a human
life that has given it's all for everyone of us.
Natalie served our people with respect, with love, and with care.
She gave us her love, she dedicated her life, and she gave us her life for
our own good.
We are also here to commemorate the legacy she has left us.
Why is she so important? What made her leave us the legacy that we have today?
My mom was special in every aspect you looked at her.
Not tied to society, always seeking the good of both the people and her, and always valuing human principles over all.
We seem to have forgotten what those are.
The faction seemed to take the human out of us, and in certain way she revived it.
"Faction before family"
3 words, 19 letters, that has blinded our society into total misconception of our principles.
Where has our love for our own blood gone? Where has a pride gone?
Are we really humans? Or are we robots to a faction?
I can tell you that if something makes me proud, is that my mom died for me.
Besides leaving her faction, risking never seeing her again in my own life, she put her life before mines and encountered death in order to preserve
family.
What we don't realize is that being human has it's risks, but me, Beatrice Prior along with my mom, Natalie Prior, are here to revive those old memories thathave been forgotten.
In Loving Memory of
